The Change Management process is employed by most medium to large size businesses and enterprises. The process, regardless of methodology, is considered a standard industry 'Best Practice' due to the increased control and awareness of changes affecting an IT environment. A growing number of smaller businesses and leading technical consulting firms are also adopting Change Management for the same reasons proven effecting by the larger businesses. Small IT environments are just as susceptible to the risks of uncontrolled change implementation but have the added burden of limited support and resources available to resolve any unforeseen issues. By closely controlling changes, the risk of impacting business operations is dramatically reduced.
